Nová dráma/New drama 2020 Festival has introduced its finalists

Eight theatre productions of contemporary Slovak and international drama will participate in the 16th nationwide Slovak theatre festival in Bratislava. The productions participating in the Nová dráma/New drama 2020 festival will compete for prizes in theatres in Bratislava.

From among 72 theatre productions that premiered between 1 February 2019 and 31 January 2020, the festival’s dramaturgy board selected eight competing productions. The dramaturgy board consists of the following members:

  • Elena Knopová (Head of the Institute of Theatre and Film Research at the Art Research Centre of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, theatrologist),
  • Diana Pavlačková (theatrologist),
  • Barbora Forkovičová (specialist editor of the kød journal, theatre critic),
  • Peter Galdík (dramaturg of the Bratislava Puppet Theatre)
  • and Marek Godovič (theatrologist, dramaturg).

The 16th Nová dráma/New Drama 2020 festival will follow two thematic lines: in addition to taking part in the nationwide Slovak project titled “2020 – the Year of Slovak Theatre”, the festival will present the theme of recycling in relation to preforming art. In collaboration with the Slovak Centre of the International Association of Theatre Critics, the Theatre Institute is organizing a conference within the 30th IATC World Congress. Simultaneously with the Nová dráma/New Drama 2020 festival, a Showcase of Slovak Theatre will take place, presenting the Congress participants – critics from all over the world – with samples of contemporary Slovak drama.
